BALDRIDGE DRIVE SLAYING SUSPECT EXTRADITED TO ESCAMBIA COUNTY

A man accused of the gruesome murder of a woman at an apartment complex on Baldridge Drive this week is now in the Escambia County jail to face charges for her killing. Investigators say Charles Carson-Dowdy shot the victim at least seven times, then ran her over twice with her own vehicle as he was fleeing the scene. The sheriff's office says they quickly identified Carson-Dowdy as the suspect. Officers in Spanish Fort found the victim's SUV on the side of the road with a flat tire. He says the suspect initially thought the officers would help him change the tire -- but they slapped the cuffs on instead. Carson-Dowdy is charged with 2nd-degree murder and remains in the Escambia jail without bond.
