Community Health Reopens Following Cyberattack

Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Community Health of Northwest Florida is reopening all 17 of its locations today. Last week, it was forced to close due to a cyberattack.

"During the holidays we have shut down all of our systems to make sure that the integrity of our patient information is protected," CEO Chandra Smiley told Channel 3. She says forensic engineers will fully assess the damage caused by the cyberattack this week.

Smiley says Community Health has decided to reopen so anyone who needs care can get it, but facilities may have limited communication ability, and patients could experience longer than normal wait times.

The cyberattack began on Tuesday of last week. Smiley says so far, it does not appear that any patient records have been compromised. There's no word on a resolution for the cyberattack yet.
