Navarre, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The qualifying deadline has passed and it looks like it'll be a crowded field for the District 1 Congressional seat. Ten Republicans have qualified for the race, including Florida's former Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, state representative Joel Rudman, former Escambia county commisisoner Gene Valentino, Aaron Dimmock, and a handful of others. Four write-in candidates have qualified, and the only Democrat to qualify for the race is Gay Valimont. Republican candidates will be in Navarre today for an event featuring campaign speeches, debates, and town-hall-style interaction with voters. It begins at 11 am at the Grille House on 98. The event is free and open to the public.
