DEPUTIES BEGIN CRACKDOWN OF HOMELESS CAMPERS

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is issuing trespass warnings today to people camping at Beggs Lane. Tomorrow, anyone who is still camping there -- or anywhere in the county -- will be arrested. This comes after Florida passed a new law banning sleeping or camping on public property. That law went into effect on Oct. 1. An estimated 150-200 people live in the encampments at Beggs Lane. Now all of them must leave or face arrest. The sheriff's office was out at Beggs Lane beginning early TODAY, issuing trespass warnings and checking for warrants.
