Pensacola FL (NewsRadio 92-3) Escambia County deputies were issuing trespass warnings to campers at the Beggs Lane homeless camp yesterday. Escambia County and local service organization representatives have been at the camp for months trying to get the hundreds of residents a place to go. Sheriff Chip Simmons says the people still at the camp have waited until the last minute to find somewhere to go. Simmons says the camp has had numerous calls for service, including violent crimes like stabbings and shootings. The decision to clear the camp came after Florida passed a law banning public camping last year. Local governments have since passed ordinances to enforce state law, and not doing so could result in legal liability.
