Escambia Commissioners to Discuss Fire Service MSBU for County Residents

Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Residents in Escambia County could be paying more for fire protection soon. County Administrator Wes Moreno is advocating for a potential increase in the municipal service benefit unit (MSBU) for fire protection services, suggesting it could double from $125 to $250 annually for residential property owners. The current fee generates about $18 million, but rising costs and a growing population have led to a budget shortfall, requiring the county to supplement the fire budget with $10 to $12 million from general funds. The issue will be discussed at the next county board meeting.
