Spring breakers are flocking to the beach this month, and while Pensacola has never been known as a Spring Break "destination" the Escambia Sheriff's Office is still taking their staffing up a notch to keep things safe.
"Obviously we're gonna have a lot of deputies out there," says Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons. "Not just the main areas, but the neighborhoods. The last few years we've really been concentrating on these house parties....these AirBNB's, we've built a good relationship with the rental companies, they notify us when they're taking place."
Simmons tells Newsradio that many Florida communities have tightened their laws after Spring Break trouble in recent years. Miami Beach has enacted curfews and tighter laws on tourists for the month. While Escambia County hasn't gone that far, Simmons says his deputies are keeping a watchful eye on the beach.
