Escambia Sheriff's Office and FBI Warn About Scam Calls

Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A warning from the Escambia Sheriff's Office on the latest scam calls -- scammers are now targeting folks that got PPP loans a few years back. Sheriff Chip Simmons says some of that information has become public record, so now scammers are calling with loan numbers and personal information -- they typically identify themselves as some branch of law enforcement, either the sheriff's office, US marshals, or FBI, and say you have a warrant related to the loan and then demand immediate payment through a bitcoin ATM machine.

Simmons says even if the caller has information about you, your relatives, or other personal data, it's a scam. He says you can always tell a scam call because they will try to keep you on the line and do not want you to hang up and call law enforcement. A similar warning was issued about scam calls earlier this week by the FBI.
