The House Ethics Committee says there's enough smoke around allegations of improper behavior by Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz that further investigation is needed. In a statement released yesterday, Committee Chair Michael Guest of Mississippi says thus far, the Committee has spoken with more than a dozen witnesses, issued 25 subpoenas, and reviewed thousands of pages of documents. Based on the the review thus far, "certain of the allegations merit continued review". The allegations specified in the statement include that Gaetz may have "engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct. Gaetz continues to deny all allegations, posting on X in part "They are doing this to avoid the obvious fact that every investigation into me ends the same way: my exoneration".
