PPD DETERMINES USE OF FORCE WAS 'JUSTIFIED AND WITHIN POLICY'

Pensacola police say they reviewed the video that surfaced online yesterday. The video showed two Pensacola police officers struggling to arrest 35-year-old Daniel Sigmen. During the struggle, one of the officers appeared to hit Sigmen with several strikes to the head. Sigmen's family said they believed the force was excessive. Wood says officers had no choice but to make the arrest, and using closed-hand strikes is within the Pensacola Police Department policy when someone is actively resisting. Sigmen is charged with a traffic violation, drug possession, resisting arrest, and battery.
