022525 (PNJ) Rep. Michelle Salzman is proposing a bill to give parents greater access to their children's social media accounts and ban encrypted messages for minors. Salzman is sponsoring House Bill 743 in the upcoming legislative session that will restrict social media companies from allowing users under 16 years old to use encrypted messages and requires social media companies to grant parents or legal guardians access to their children's accounts to be able to read all messages.
