NWS CHANGES 'HEAVY SNOW' CRITERIA -- David Wayne
Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The criteria for what's considered "Heavy Snow" with the National Weather Service has changed for our area ahead of the 2023-24 winter season. In Southern Alabama and Florida, the criteria for Heavy snow has been lowered to 1 inch. Northern Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia remain at a 2" criteria for Heavy Snow, and the threshold continues to increase the further north you go.
